Last Thursday, the Consumer Credit Awards 2017 took place in a classy Mayfair hotel. The competition is based on number of customer votes and included over 27,000 votes across 137 firms also in Payday, Personal Loans, rent-to-buy, pawnbroking and of course, guarantor loans.

Who were the finalists?

In the guarantor category, the finalists for ‘Best Guarantor Loan Provider’ were: Amigo, TFS Loans, 1plus1 Loans and George Banco. The winners were Bournemouth-based Amigo loans, who have reached over 200,000 customers funded since starting in 2005. A notable mention also goes to TFS Loans who were runner-up in the ‘Treating Customers Fairly Champion’ category.

Notable Mentions

Some special mentions go to Fair For You, a Birmingham based firm who recently launched a new rent to buy product, completely not-for-profit. Rent to buy allows individuals to rent household appliances like washing machines and TVs with the option to buy them at the end, but overall at a very high cost. So to see a non-profit offering much lower costs is very refreshing.

In addition, Drafty were recognised as ‘Innovation of the Year’ with their alternative to payday loans, allowing customers to take out extendable credit online. The middlesex-based firm are owned by Lending Stream.

Mike Fotis, founder of the awards added:

“The results of the Consumer Credit Awards help us to find out what’s really going on across the consumer credit industry, and it’s particularly pleasing to see such a wide variety of firms represented amongst our winners.”

The winners were revealed at an awards ceremony on 13th July at the Lansdowne Club in Mayfair.
